Procedures

Adoption Centre:
Sunday to Friday  11am - 2.30pm
Saturday                10am - 3.30pm

Adopting a new cat or kitten is a huge commitment and responsibility. All cats and kittens at CPS are $150.00 and two cats for $250.00 and they have been desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and flea and worm treated.

At the Cat Protection Society we like to make sure that all potential adopters have thought seriously about that long term commitment.

You need to bring:

  • Identification with your name and address.

  • All members of your household (including children, if any). Matching the right cat to the right home is important not just for the cat but for the people!

  • Please bring in your own carry cage if looking to adopt a cat or kitten.

You need to:

  • Leave yourself plenty of time. An adoption can take up to an hour and we are especially busy on the weekends so it may take longer. Ensure that you have organised transport to get your new cat or kitten home.

  • Be aware that there may not be a cat or kitten suitable for you and your home on the day of your visit. Many people come in a few times before finding their purrfect feline companion.

  • Be aware of our policy to adopt cats and kittens with white ears and pink noses to homes where the cat will live mainly indoors. That is because these cats are particularly susceptible to sunburn and skin cancer.
  • Read and fill in the Adoption Questionnaire, either before or when you visit. It assists us to work with you in finding the most suitable cat for your home.

Surrendering a Cat:

Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm

The Cat Protection Society of NSW is an open shelter - we will accept a cat or kitten at any time and do our very best to find them a new home. However, due to the numbers of cats that we receive we simply cannot give a guarantee that we will be able to re-home every cat or kitten. For this reason we ask that before surrendering a cat, owners try the following procedures:

  • Asking all your friends/family and work colleagues
  • Placing a poster at your local vet
  • Placing an ad in your local paper
  • Placing an ad on www.cat-match.com.au

The Cat Protection Society is open for surrenders Monday to Friday from 9am – 4pm. We do ask for a $30.00 donation for an adult cat and a $10.00 donation for a kitten. A surrender form will need to be signed by the person surrendering the cat.

If the cat is microchipped the owner is required to sign the surrender form. If the owner cannot come in, the form may be signed in their absence and we will require any current details of owner, if available.

When surrendering a stray cat please make sure that nobody owns the cat before bringing it into us.
  • Ask neighbours if anybody knows of the cat.
  • Place posters in your local area - just because the cat is not wearing a collar does not mean that the cat is not owned.
  • Take the cat to your local vet and check if it has a microchip. You will not be charged for this procedure.

As the Cat Protection Society is a registered charity we do appreciate any donations when surrendering a stray cat or kitten.

Please note: When surrendering a cat please make sure that the cat/kitten is brought into our building in a secure cat cage or carrier.

We are open 9am - 4pm Monday to Friday for surrenders
