Desexing

Kittens

There is no reason not to desex your cat!

Kittens can be desexed from the age of eight weeks and we recommend that all cats are desexed by the age of three months.

It is important to desex kittens before they reach sexual maturity. Even very young female cats can become pregnant. At sexual maturity, male cats start displaying antisocial behaviours such as spraying and aggression and these habits may be difficult to break even after desexing, so make sure your male kitten is desexed well before puberty.

Desexing both males and females prevents the birth of unwanted kittens. Tens of thousands of cats and kittens are euthanased in NSW every year because of the failure to desex. Prevent this tragic loss of life.

Desexing also has positive health benefits for cats, including a reduced risk of cancer and other diseases of the reproductive organs, and because the cats aren't out looking for mates they are less likely to get involved in fights.

All CPS cats and kittens are desexed

If you have an undesexed cat or kitten, make an appointment with your vet as soon as possible! If your vet is inexperienced in desexing younger kittens, give us a call and we can refer you to an experienced vet. If you are on a fixed low income such as a pension, we can help you with our discounted desexing program. Even if you live outside the Sydney area, we may be able to refer you to other services that could assist.
